Mental Health Problems - How can I find out more?
If you would like more information about help available you can contact:
- our Customer Services staff at your nearest Cumbria County Council Adult Social Care office;
- your Doctor (who will contact us on your behalf); or
- your local Community Mental Health Centre to speak to a social worker direct.
People wanting help from us must apply for an assessment from a social worker.
There are two kinds of assessment:
- Assessments of need under the NHS and Community Care Act which we use to see if a person needs services.
- Assessments under the Mental Health Act 1983 which are usually requested by a Doctor or relative of people whose mental illnesses are severe. These are a special type of assessment.
You can ask for an assessment from any of the places listed above. You will be asked to provide some basic details about yourself and any carers you may have. We will then arrange for you to see a social worker either at your home or at a place convenient for you.
