Many carers feel lonely and isolated. Some may feel that nobody listens or gives time to hear about the things they need. Carers can feel angry at being left with a very difficult task and then perhaps guilty about not being caring enough. If you have these feelings, they are normal. Don’t let them worry you - ask for help.
Our staff can help you talk about things that may be emotional or difficult for you. Alternatively, you can talk to your local carers organisation, your doctor or the Samaritans.
Your local carers organisation can tell you about carers groups where you will be able to meet with other carers. Some groups provide ‘help lines’ to which you can telephone for help or just have someone to speak to.
Some carers outlive the person they look after. Others face great changes when the person they look after goes into a residential or nursing home. If you are in this situation, you may need help to adjust to your change in lifestyle. You may need counselling following a bereavement or ongoing support, perhaps from a local carers group or organisation.
