How Do I Become an Occupational Therapist?

There are a variety of programmes available in the UK. You will need to study and qualify from a pre-registration programme in occupational therapy.

You can choose to study the BSc (Hons) in Occupation Therapy either:

  • 3 or 4 year full-time programme
  • 4 year part-time programme (you will require the support of your employer to apply for a in-service training programme)
  • 2 year accelerated programme if you have a first degree     

Postgraduate programmes are available for those for have completed a degree in a related field and have some experience in working in the field of social care. These programmes are usually over 2 years and may award:

  • Graduate Diploma in Occupational Therapy
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Occupational Therapy
  • MSc Occupational Therapy
  • MSc Health through Occupation

Applications to 3 or 4-year full-time pre-registration occupational therapy programmes should be made through UCAS:
