Lesley Gill - Workforce Development Officer
Hello, my name is Lesley Gill and I’m a Workforce Development Officer. My job involves developing the partnership known as Care Sector Alliance Cumbria. This is an Alliance that supports the workforce development activity of all organisations delivering social care services across the county.
I really love my job because it is so diverse. I am able to work strategically, but also manage many of the different projects we undertake. I meet lots of people and have the opportunity to travel around the county.
Working for the County Council means that I enjoy many of the benefits connected with the public sector. I really like the flexi scheme and being able to finish work early on occasions or have a long lunch or the odd day off. Of course, in order to do this I occasionally work long days. I also enjoy the security of what appears to be a secure pension scheme There are also many other services and benefits offered to staff that I haven’t used – such as sickness benefits and the counselling service. Despite not having used them, it’s good to know that they are there – just in case.
Simone Eagling - Training Administrator (ASW Award/Adult PQ Award)
Hi, my name is Simone Eagling. My current role is as Training Administrator in the Workforce Development Unit. I am responsible for the administration of training for Approved Social Workers and their Continuing Professional Development. I also provide the administration for PQ Programmes available to staff in Adult Social Care.
I have worked in various Departments within Cumbria County Council for over 14 years. During this time they have supported my own personal development enabling me to achieve various NVQ qualifications.
Cumbria County Council adopt a family friendly approach to employment. I have been able to return to part time working hours following the birth of both my daughters.
Lisa Nixon - Adult Information Officer
I am currently employed as an Adult Information Officer in the Business Intelligence Unit of the Adult Social Care Directorate, which all sounds very grand but basically my role is to provide Management Information for Adult Social Care Services on behalf of the Directorate.
I have been in this job since June of last year (2005) having previously worked for Carlisle City Council and latterly Carlisle Housing Association. Since I started working for Cumbria County Council I have found the flexible working practices really helpful as I have a young family and strive to achieve a suitable work life balance, which we all do!
I am also supported in my own personal development through attending standard in-house courses as well as more specific courses, which relate to the job that I do. I have found that staff are encouraged to further their career prospects which is fantastic and benefits both parties in the long run.
I am lucky to have joined a close knitted team who support each other and work well as a team – regular nights out help to keep us all sane as well!!
