What is CCAT?

Cover of Cumbria Competence and Training pack

Background

The CCAT modules have been developed in Cumbria to empower care staff.  It is an outcomes based training package for Home Care, Residential Care, Nursing Care and Intermediate Care Staff.

This Cumbria wide project originally ran from January 2003 to March 2004 employing two Project Managers funded by the Workforce Development Confederation.  The Partners are Cumbria County Council Adult Social Care, health services in Cumbria and independent care providers.

It was comprehensively reviewed in 2006/7 to encompass developments in the Cumbrian care economy and in particular, changing requirements of insurance companies and the Commission for Social Care Inspection.

Aim:

Linked to the older people’s National Service Framework, and based on the principles of the Generic Domiciliary Care Projects, the project contributes to the modernisation of the health and social care support workforce, particularly those staff working with older people and at the health/social care interface.

Main objectives:

  • To increase the number of support staff with evidence of improved competence to meet changing requirements of health and social services commissioners.
  • To develop and maintain a set of ‘workbooks’ to support work-based training of support staff working across health and social care.
  • To enable professional staff to provide direct training and supervision to ensure clinical governance arrangements are in place.
