This is a jointly funded housing scheme for 3 individuals following brain injury. The scheme was developed from the need to return brain injured individuals to appropriate supported living arrangements after receiving rehabilitation often in out of county settings.
The scheme was jointly commissioned from health and social care and provides specialist supported care in the community. The scheme is provided by the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust (BIRT). BIRT are a National organisation working with brain injured people in a variety of settings along the care pathway.
The scheme provides a shared house and 24 hour care from specialist care staff. Care staff are trained in the specific requirements of brain injury. They are supported through BIRT’s regional network for crisis management and training.
The care environment is enabling focused and residents on the scheme are encouraged to become as independent as possible within the support provided. It is hoped that for some individuals this will be a steeping stone to more independent living in the future.
