CSAC Performance Management 2

Performance Management

In 2006 CSAC carried out research amongst front line care workers to find out if they have ever considered leaving care and if they had, why they had and if they hadn't, what it was that kept them motivated.

On analysing the data, it became clear that the people who loved their work and intended to stay had supportive and effective managers, whilst those that had considered leaving, generally cited poor management as one of the main reasons.

CSAC therefore commissioned a Performance Management programme that addressed the management weaknesses highlighted in the research. This included:

  • Working with Confrontation in Teams
  • Organisational Communication
  • Aspects of Employment Law
  • Time Management
  • Staff Motivation
  • Supervision
  • Appraisals
  • Stress Management

We felt it was very important that the delegates were easily able to apply their learning back in the workplace and therefore this aspect was highlighted on our tender spec.

The programme is very flexible with delegates having the opportunity to attend individual sessions or attend all 8 and gain the ILM Certificate in First Line Management.

Feed back from the programmes has been tremendous and includes:

"Each of the facilitators provided entertaining and informative sessions, encouraging everyone to participate by sharing their experiences, both positive and negative and always looking into what could be improved for all concerned. I felt there was an atmosphere of safety and trust where experiences and situations could be explored openly and in a way that was looking towards better outcomes. I was amazed at how much we actually did in each of the days and all the helpful information we had to take away and continue with ourselves"
