Who can have self directed support with personal budgets?

Anne Bradshaw

We are currently offering self directed support with personal budgets to:

  • Older people (aged 65 and over)
  • Younger people (aged 18-64) with physical disabilities
  • Younger people (aged 18-64) with learning disabilities

who are assessed as needing social care and support services and live in the community.

Different arrangements apply for people living in or wanting to move into a residential or nursing home.

We are currently developing self directed support with personal budgets for people with mental health problems and carers.  Our plan is to implement this later in 2011 but in the meantime, direct payments continue to be available for these.

Different arrangements also apply to people needing occupational therapy and equipment services although direct payments continue to be available for these.

If you are already receiving services from us, self directed support will enable you to think about better ways of meeting your needs. Of course, if you are happy with the services you receive and they are meeting your needs, you do not need to change them.
