Combined Mock Corporate Assessment and Joint Area Review of Children's Services
During the period September to December 2005 the County Council's inspectors and auditors carried out a review of the Council’s performance including a Joint Area Review of Services for Children & Young People (JAR).
In preparation for the ‘real’ assessment later in 2006, the Council commissioned the Society of Local Authority Chief Executives and Senior Managers (SOLACE) to carry out a mock assessment, which took place during in the week 9th - 13th January 2006. The mock included on-site activity at the Council by an independent team who closely followed the approach that will be used by the Audit Commission and other inspectorates later this year.
The purpose of the mock was to get an honest and independent assessment of the Council’s performance, including what we have achieved with partner organisations, and to understand what needs to be improved in time for the real assessment later in 2006.
Initially SOLACE undertook a review of the Council’s key plans and policy documents. The main part of the mock then took place over 5 days, commencing on 9th January 2006, when the SOLACE team were at the Council. The team met with councillors, employees, representatives of partner organisations and service users in order to get a broader and deeper understanding of performance.
