11 MILLION is a national organisation led by the Children’s Commissioner for England, Professor Sir Al Aynsley-Green. It organised the first ever 'Takeover Day' on Friday 23rd November 2007 to prompt children and young people to be invited to take over activities and services delivered by a wide range of organisations. The campaign’s aim is to ensure that the views of children and young people are routinely asked for and listened to.
A wide range of organisations in Cumbria took part on and around Takeover Day. The Connexions Service asked young people to select and recruit a young person to be CEO for the day. The County Council asked young people to design a new website, provide a policy steer for the management team and job shadow key staff including the corporate director of Cumbria's Children's Services. The Cumbria police and Health Service also ran events.
