Introduction to Service/Eligibility Criteria
Cumbria HHTS provides temporary educational support for pupils who are unable to attend school for medical reasons. The purpose is to minimise disruption to education for children who are physically ill, injured, or have mental health difficulties. HHTS aims to provide as full curriculum access as is possible to enable the pupils to make a smooth return to their school as soon as their health permits. The service also provides temporary educational support for pregnant schoolgirls and school-age mothers.
The Hospital and Home Tuition Service for Cumbria offers a sensitive and appropriate response to the educational needs of young people who are absent from school through medical needs or illness.
The County Manager, manages hospital and home tuition provision across the three regions of Cumbria: East, South and West. Teachers are based in each area and are supported by tutors. Teaching also takes place in three of the county's hospitals. Schools, educational and health professionals and other agencies, such as Connexions, can refer pupils to the service.
Cumbria Hospital and Home Tuition Service Vision:
'To provide a high quality education for pupils who are unable to attend school for medical reasons.'
