Commissioning Service

Welcome to the Commissioning Project for Cumbria County Council's Children's Services Directorate.

Commissioning is about enhancing the quality of life for children, young people and their families and carers by having a vision and commitment to improve services. It involves the process of assessing needs, allocating resources, defining priorities and choices and determining how they are best delivered, monitored and evaluated.

The Commissioning Strategy will acknowledge the diversity within such a large county and recognise that need varies according to locality and ensure fair access to services around the county. This Commissioning Strategy must ensure that the needs of vulnerable children and young people are met across Cumbria. Within Cumbria, the Children & Young People's Plan sets out both a clear vision and specific commitments for all partners in the delivery of better outcomes for children and young people. The key priority within the plan is the shift to early and earlier intervention.

The implementation of the Children's Centre commissioning strategy will link to locality working within the Children’s Services Directorate and also the restructuring of the Directorate which will include realignment of staff where appropriate.
