Local authorities are required to establish integrated youth support services for all young people to improve their lives.

Cumbria Youth Support Services (CYSS) is about providing services to all young people aged 13-19 years according to their needs with the emphasis on the most vulnerable young people. This will include positive activities and personal development opportunities, universal access to information, advice and guidance, alongside more targeted work with those at risk of poor outcomes and highly targeted support for the most vulnerable.

There are four key challenges from “Youth Matters” -

  • How to engage more young people in positive activities and empower them to shape services;
  • How to engage more young people in volunteering and  community involvement;
  • How to provide better and impartial information advice and guidance;
  • How to provide better and more personalised support for the most vulnerable young people.
