Millom residents drop in and find out

You said…   We want a better understanding of which organisations deliver which services in our area, and where we can find help on a range of community issues.

We did…   Organised a drop in and find out session, where a wide range of organisations were on hand to give you information on their services and answer your questions.

When residents at Millom Neighbourhood Forum told councillors and council officers they wanted to find out more about the services provided in Millom, a Drop In and Find Out event was organised.

Residents wanted to get a better idea of which organisation they should approach with their views and concerns about their community on different issues, and where and how to contact them.

The team at the Copeland Area Support Team, part of the County Council’s Community Unit, set up the drop in session at Millom Guide Hall. As well as local government organisations, residents met representatives from Cumbria Constabulary, Home Group housing association and a range of local charity and voluntary organisations including Millom Credit Union, Citizens’ Advice Bureau and Cumbria CVS.

The event was planned as part of Millom Together We Can: a week long intensive project in the town aimed at enabling residents to have their say on local issues and find out about what’s going on in their area.

Also on the agenda was an Area Walk which saw participating organisations join the Mayor on a door to door area walk where residents are invited to comment on improvements they’d like to see in their area.

A number of residents mentioned that potholed stretches of road were a problem and a team from Cumbria Highways were on hand to sort these out during the week.

Football sessions, grot-spot litter picks and a Question Time event for school pupils with the local MP also brought residents together.
