Residents of Culgaith can look forward to a colourful summer thanks to a wild flower meadow which has been planted with support from a Neighbourhood Forum Grant.
The Guardians of Culgaith Tarn are group of residents who manage the tarn field, which is the village green, on behalf of the Parish Council.
The group felt that a wild flower meadow would be just the thing to make the tarn field a beautiful, peaceful location for villagers, so the group turned to the County Council for help, submitting an application for a Neighbourhood Forum Grant.
The £500 they were awarded was added to their own funds and enabled the Guardians to not only plant the wild flower meadow but also to install bollards to protect the field from vehicles and prune misshapen trees.
Dianne Steadman from the Guardians of Culgaith Tarn, says: “There is a breathtaking view from the tarn – you can see right across the Pennines – so we really wanted to make the most of the field.
“We needed some money to get the best from the tarn, even seeds and tree pruning costs all add up, and for a new community organisation like ourselves it can be hard to find the cash.
“The forum grant has been a massive boost to us. The tarn is used by dog walkers, school children, and resting walkers and cyclists, and really is idyllic.”
