You said… Help us find out about the help that’s available to us in recovering from the floods.
We did… Made sure local people get the practical and emotional help they need from a range of sources.
Since the floods in November 2009 the County Council’s South Lakeland Community Unit have helped local people get the help and advice they need to get back on their feet.
Immediately after the flooding, a Flood Centre was set up in Ulverston by Cumbria County Council and Barrow Borough and South Lakeland District councils to help local people meet their practical needs for washing, drying and cooking.
Local people were also kept informed of all the services and help available to them, from free meals to house cleaning through regular Flood Bulletins.
Advice and workshops on how they local people can make sure they can understand insurance processes and get help with products to protect their homes from flooding in future were also held in Burneside, Coniston, Ambleside and Ulverston.
Now, along with the Cumbria Community Foundation, the County Council is making sure that flood affected residents can get the emotional support they need, including a range of free, stress-relieving complementary therapies such as massage, acupuncture and counseling.
