Youth Pathways to employment

The Youth Pathways to Employment programme is improving access to employment for 16-18 year-olds in Cumbria.  Aimed at young people who would find getting a job difficult, because of personal circumstances or location, it provides:

  • 12 months intensive training
  • Allowance commences at £60.00 for the first four week induction period. The remaining 48 weeks the allowance will increase to £80.00 per week plus travel expenses
  • Cumbria County Council & Voluntary sector placements
  • NVQ level-based training through a local training provider
  • free additional Cumbria County council courses.

Since the programme started in 2000, hundreds of placements have been successfully started. Many placements gained a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) and many were awarded their European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) and OCR Word and Text Processing Level 2. This is some additional text.

"Youth Pathways to Employment is a great scheme, which has been really beneficial to me - I would recommend it to anyone." - Bridget, a Youth Pathways trainee. Read more about what Bridget and other youth trainees think.
