Kendal Library's shop opened its doors on Friday 28 October. For many years libraries have sold a range of items including local books and greetings cards.
This idea is being developed with the library dedicating a small area to the sale of quality related gifts on the theme of books and literature.
Hester Gorman, Senior Librarian at Kendal Library said: “We look forward to welcoming customers into the new Library Shop at Kendal. This is a new venture for the Library Service to generate income that will be re-invested in the local library. It is also another positive reaction to suggestions made during the recent Libraries Review.”
The shop sells a range of items linked to the literary world including reading glasses, bookmarks, stationery and children’s gifts. All profits from the Library Shop will be re-invested in the local library service.
For several years now Kendal Library has very successfully sold Christmas cards and gifts in aid of a variety of charities. These are now on sale again as usual until Sunday 18 December.
