229 people have put their names forward as candidates in the forthcoming county council elections to be held on Thursday, 5th May. All 84 county council electoral divisions will be contested. Nominations closed on noon Thursday 7th April. Any candidate who may wish to withdraw from the election has until noon on Tuesday 12 April to do so.
Of the 229 candidates; 79 are Conservatives, 77 are Labour candidates, 45 are Liberal Democrats and 17 are Independent candidates. In addition there are 3 candidates representing the Legalise Cannabis Alliance and 2 from the People's Party.
The UKIP, the Green Party, and the English Democrats - Putting England First, will each field one candidate. Finally 3 candidates haven't specified any affiliation.
Confirmation of the final list of candidates will be issued as soon as possible after noon on the 12th.
