24/8/2005 - Moorclose Library flooded

As a result of the heavy rainfall and a subsequent blockage in the drainage system, Moorclose Library was flooded yesterday evening. Unfortunately the library will be closed for the immediate future.

It is too soon to know exactly when the library will be ready to re-open but staff are working hard to ensure that normal service is resumed as quickly as possible. Much of the floor space was under water and the library will need thorough drying and decontamination treatment. It is expected that this work could take between two and three weeks.

Only the library has been affected on the shared site so a returns box will be put in the entrance to Workington Sixth Form College next to Moorclose Library Door. Posters will also be put up detailing alternative library facilities nearby, which include:-

Workington Library, which is open 58 hours each week, on:

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday (0900 - 1900)

Thursdays and Saturdays (0900 - 1600)

Sundays (1200 - 1600)

Seaton Library, which is open 13 hours each week, on:

Monday (1430 - 1730)

Tuesday (1430 - 1630)

Thursday (1000 - 1200 and 1430 - 1630)

Friday (1400 - 1600)

Saturday (1000 - 1200)

Distington Library, which is open 11 hours each week, on:

Tuesday (1300 - 1700)

Thursday (1300 - 1600)

Friday (1300 - 1700)

If anyone wants further details of alternative library facililties and opening hours they should contact Workington Library on 01900 325 180.

Cumbria County Council’s Library Service apologises for any inconvenience caused and would like to thank everyone for their patience. An announcement will be made as soon as a reopening date is confirmed
