30/8/2005 - Bus service changes in South Lakeland

Key Bus service in South Lakeland and Furness are being taken over by new operators from 5th September and re-timed to suit passengers needs.

The new operator D&H Travel are taking over the majority of the X12 service from Stagecoach.

The X12: Ulverston to Coniston will run the same numbers of buses each day but there are changes to the timing and route of certain journeys to allow improved connections with rail services from Ulverston, after requests from the public. Certain journeys will also be diverted to run closer to Ulverston station. School buses to/from Ulverston will continue to be provided by Stagecoach.

A new operator, Blueworks Private Hire, is taking over from Stagecoach on two Thurdsay only services, the 509 Askam to Ulverston and the 538 Newby Bridge to Ulverston service with some minor timetable changes.

Stagecoach will continue to run the X35 and the 618 services with some improvements.

On the X35 service between Barrow and Kendal via Grange-over-Sands and Ulverston, will make an extra stop on Milnthorpe Road in Kendal, near to the junction with Romney Road on an experimental basis.

The 618 to Barrow and Ambleside via Ulverston, Newby Bridge and Windermere will run an extra mid-morning service from Monday to Saturday throughout the year. Extra summer only journeys have come to an end. The extra mid-morning journeys will operate one hour later than the extra summer only journey, departing Barrow at 10:30am and returning from Ambleside at 11:45am.
