22/2/2005 - Sudan 1

In response to the Food Standards Agency’s food alert regarding Sudan 1, both Cumbria County Council's Trading Standards and all 6 district Environmental Health Departments in the county are taking immediate action to protect consumers.

The major supermarkets and food retailing chains have already withdrawn the foods contaminated with the illegal dye, but to further safeguard consumers, Trading Standards Officers (TSOs) and Environmental Health Officers (EHOs) will be contacting small caterers and retailers to ensure they are aware of the recall. In addition TSOs will be visiting a number of small independent retailers throughout the county to ensure that no contaminated product remains on sale.

The complete list of products can be found on the Food Standards Agency website (www.food.gov.uk) and any consumers who find that they have purchased contaminated products are asked to return them to the retailer.

Any businesses or consumers who have concerns are asked to contact their local district council Environmental Health Department or Cumbria County Council Trading Standards.
