1/6/2005 - Wartime cookery comes to Carlisle

As part of its summer programme of events Cumbria County Councils Library Service will be hosting a World War Two cookery demonstration on Sunday 5th June in Carlisle library.

"The Kitchen Front" is part of the library’s World War Two weekend and the demonstration will see Carl Morgan cooking wartime recipes using traditional Cumbrian Foods. Carl teaches healthy eating and nutrition across the county and invites everyone to come along and enjoy the day.

Carl says:

"I’ll be sharing some simple, home-cooked, wartime recipes from Cumbria. People didn’t have much money during the war and had to cope with rationing but they still had a healthier diet than most of us do now. Moving away from ready made and processed food is the best way to control the additives, fat, and salt in our diet. The day will also a great way to bring the older generation together with young parents and kids, and in keeping with the war-time spirit, I’m sure we will have plenty of fun whilst we’re doing it."

So come along to Carlisle Library between 13.30 and 15.30 to pick up some of Carl’s useful tips and tasty recipes.

Free family tickets are available from Carlisle Library or call 01228 607310 to book your place.
