5/2/2007 - Penrith Library stages sale

The scene is set for a special book sale in the Penrith Playhouse on Sunday 18 February.

Several hundred old library books, provided for the set of the Penrith Players' new production of the hit comedy Educating Rita, will be sold from the stage to members of the public between 2:00pm and 4:30pm.

The books, which have been provided by Penrith Library, are old stock which has been removed from shelves to make way for new titles. Refreshments will be served during the sale with proceeds going to the Penrith Playhouse and Cumbria County Council's Library Service.

Councillor Roger Bingham, cabinet member responsible for Cumbria's Library Service, said: "From time to time libraries hold sales of old stock that has been removed from the shelves.

"This is a great way to ensure the curtain stays up on these books and in doing so, provide more funding for new titles."

Registered charities can get information on how to organise their own sale of old library books by contacting Penrith Library on: 01768-242100.
