Notes for editors

Each of the groups receiving grants is supported by Cumbria Sure Start which is responsible for delivering the national Sure Start agenda for the children, parents and communities of Cumbria. Within Cumbria Sure Start, the development and sustainability team work directly with childcare providers to provide support and training both for new provision or existing provision.

Part of this work involves hosting Childcare Network Meetings across the county which take place termly. This enables providers to get together, share good practice and receive training on relevant issues. Development workers host the meetings and organise speakers who cover issues relevant to the childcare sector. Recent speakers include a representative from Ofsted to talk about child protection issues, Cumbria Fire Service talking about fire drills and procedures and a representative from Allerdale Borough Council environmental health team.
