30/1/2007 - Picture story: Allerdale early years funding boost

Grants totaling more than £28,000 have been presented to early years groups in Allerdale by Cumbria County Council's Local Area Committee.

A presentation ceremony was held at the Glass House, Wigton, on Tuesday 23 January. Bowness, Thursby and Caldbeck county councillor Duncan Fairbairn presented cheques on behalf of the Allerdale Local Committee to the following children's groups:

- Aspatria Community Childcare, which received £10,000 towards a new early years daycare facility.

- The Aspatria breakfast club which received £400.

- Bolton Low Houses pre-school, which received £8,000 to help enhance its daycare facilities.

- Kirkbrampton Pre-School, which received received £5,000 to help develop a new outdoor play area.

- Workington's St. Gregory's Educare Centre, which received £5,000 to help create an outdoor play area with an area where children can grow plants and flowers

- The Greta Mother and Toddler Group, who were unable to attend the presentation, also received £520 for new play equipment.
