Cumbria's GCSE students are being congratulated after remaining on course for record results.
Thirty six of the county's forty two secondary schools, that's 86%, have now been recorded.
Figures show a rise of more than five per cent from last year of students gaining five or more A* to C grades. 64.7% achieved five or more A* to C grades (compared with 59.1% in 2007). This is more than double the overall national rise of 2.4%.
There was a similar increase in those grades which included English and Maths. 50.5% achieved five or more A* to C grades (compared with 45.7% in 2007).
The percentage of children gaining at least one GCSE A* to G was also up - from 97.1% to 97.8%.
The average points for pupils was 391 this year compared to 368.5 in 2007.
County Councillor Jim Buchanan, cabinet member responsible for children's services said:
"This is another great year for the county's GCSE students. It does look like they have surpassed all previous results and we offer our sincere congratulations. We are still awaiting final results but it does seem extremely encouraging. Out thanks also go to the support staff who help strengthen our children's education."
