26/8/2008 - Head of 'Royle' family visits Workington library

The head of that other Royle family, Jim Royle - aka actor Ricky Tomlinson - will be dropping into Workington library this Saturday (30 August) as part of a day of red hot reads that also include children's storytime in Vulcan's Park, and craft activities.

The events are all part of the library's support for Workington's Paint the Town Red family fun day, and to mark National Year of Reading, a national campaign designed to inspire everyone to read more.

Ricky Tomlinson will be at the library, on Saturday, between 11.15 and 12.15, signing copies of his books including his autobiography, 'Ricky'.

Although not a trained actor, in the early 1980s Ricky swapped the building site for the site of Channel 4 soap, Brookside, where he starred as Bobby Grant. Since then, he has scored successes in film and TV roles such as 'Mike Bassett: England Manager', Cracker, and The Royle Family. Ricky will be kicking off Paint the Town Red from the main stage before heading for the library, then the Carnegie Theatre to help judge the Paint the Town Red photography competition, and ending up at the Derwent Bookshop in Finkle Street.
