This summer, children from all over Cumbria will be running to their local libraries to take part in a special sport-themed reading challenge.
Organised in Cumbria by the county council’s Library Service, the Team Read challenge will give young library goers the chance to enjoy reading from a range of exiting new books as well as the usual favourites.
The Team Read is the tenth national Summer Reading Challenge - a massive reading promotion for 4-11 year olds which runs in libraries throughout the summer holidays.
Children are challenged to read six books, spurred on by free stickers and other incentives.
The challenge will run from 12 July to early September. Children signing up to take part will be given a bright and colourful folder to record their summer reading and a free hologram card.
Young people who complete the challenge will be presented with medals and certificates. They will also get a Team Read bag.
Several libraries will also be holding special prize-draws with the chance for children who take part to take home prizes.
Councillor Gary Strong, cabinet member responsible for Cumbria’s libraries, said: "This is a great way to keep children entertained over the summer holiday."
To take part, young people should visit their local library. Information on what's happening in local libraries will be available on the county council website
