30/6/2008 - Kendal Day Centre's new outdoor area to be unveiled

The Kendal Day Centre will be celebrating the opening of its new outdoor area on Friday (4 July).

The centre’s outdoor area has been totally refurbished in a £12,000 scheme to create a safe space for service users to enjoy gardening and other open-air activities.

Photographers are invited to the centre on Dowker Lane at 10:00am where service users and staff will be holding an open day to thank everyone who supported the project.

Cumbria County Council runs the centre which supports older people to live as independently as possible.

Funding for scheme has come from the county council, local businesses and a series of fund-raising activities.

Staff at the centre joined service users and their families to help to raise funds through a series of coffee mornings, bric-a-brac sales and other events. One of the centres' carers, Sharon Tallon, raised more than £100 through a sponsored swim.

The Kendal Arms, IBIS sports and social club, The Anglers Inn Trust, Homebase and Capita were just some of the businesses and organisations who provided support.
