Primary schools across the county will be encouraging pupils to spring into action by keeping active and eating sensibly with a special lunch - and a chance to bounce away with a rubber ball.
As part of its ongoing Kid's Kitchen promotion, the county council's school meal service will be sending each school that takes its meals some stickers, posters and bouncy balls to help get two very important messages across to pupils - be more active, and eat more fruit and vegetables.
Bouncy rubber balls will be given away as spot prizes
Each school decides which day to hold the spring into action lunch, and on that day will be serving up a menu of:
- Spring chicken baked in a rich tomato sauce
- a relay of salad vegetables (sticks)
- rice or tri-coloured pasta
There's also a vegetarian pasta option, and dessert is crunchy topped apple and cinnamon slice.
Jim Buchanan is the county council's Cabinet member for Children's Wellbeing. He said:
"Despite the recent cold snap spring really is just around the corner, so this is the ideal time to start reminding children about how to stay fit and healthy.
"Lessons learnt at an early age are more likely to stay with you for life, so these young people will be more likely to grow up to be healthy adults."
