Burnside Court Lunch Club in Stanwix will be have two extra diners on Wednesday (19 March), as Mayor of Carlisle and county councillor Elizabeth Mallinson joins neighbourhood development officer Annette Grogan to celebrate £700 of local forum funding.
The Stanwix Urban Neighbourhood Forum has given the £700 grant to enable the lunch club, which is run by Carlisle and district Age Concern, to buy a full set of crockery and tablecloths.
Burnside Court Lunch Club meets every Wednesday at Burnside Court. It caters for at least 50 elderly Stanwix residents every week, as well as providing a valuable local facility in the community.
Jess Sinclair is a volunteer co-ordinator at the lunch club. She said:
"Every Wednesday, people from the community join residents who live at Burnside Court for lunch; it is good for the two groups to have a chance to mix with each other.
"Many of the people at the lunch club say Wednesday is the highlight of their week, which is nice to know."
Annette Grogan, Neighbourhood Development Officer for Stanwix, said:
"Forum grants like the one the Stanwix Urban forum gave to the lunch club are available to community groups throughout Carlisle.
"The funding for these grants is provided jointly by the county council and Carlisle City Council, and anyone who is interested in applying for a grant should get in touch with us at the Carlisle Community Unit."
