Carlisle library’s brand-new children’s area is to be officially unveiled this Friday (23 May).
Photographers are invited to the library at 4:00pm where some of the city’s junior readers will be putting the new castle-themed children’s area through its paces.
In addition to the new area for junior readers, the library has also created a special zone for teenagers where young people will be able to relax with their peers. The revamp is the first major work carried out in the library since it opened in The Lanes, 21-years ago.
The opening of the new children's area is the latest in a series of activities arranged by the county council to mark the National Year of Reading - a national campaign designed to inspire everyone to read more.
The £40,000 refurbishment scheme reflects the county council's commitment to attract young people of all ages to use Cumbria's library services and in doing so, hopefully encourage a life-long love of reading.
The improvements have been funded by the CN Group Fund, Pirelli, Agilysis, and a government Performance Reward Grant.
