A Cumbria County Councillor is urging youngsters to be inspired by the volunteers who yesterday launched a clean-up operation in Kendal’s vandalised allotment site.
A team of young people from V involved battled against the elements, tackling the damage caused by vandalism at the Canal Head allotment in Kendal.
Cllr Geoff Cook, Cumbria County Councillor for Kendal Highgate, said: "I am very impressed by the results of the team's hard work. We often hear negative things about youngsters in this country but this is a perfect example of young people helping their local community and doing it because they care about how Kendal looks.
"Cumbria County Council’s Community Awards are a great way of getting volunteers the coverage they deserve and today’s clean up certainly falls into that category. I’m very proud that youngsters from Kendal can show how volunteering can make a real difference.
"I think we should all support and celebrate the work of these workers and these awards are an ideal opportunity to recognise the vital roles they play in the lives of people in South Lakes."
The V involved team delivers volunteering opportunities for young people in local communities. Members of the V involved team worked at the allotments alongside the Kendal WI.
The V involved team works with local organisations to develop volunteering placements for young people.
