With more than £200 million investment for the west of Carlisle, residents now have the chance to discuss the plans at a large scale community event next week.
The two-day ‘Your Future Under Construction’ event will start on Friday 9 October at the Richard Rose Morton Academy with all 550 students given a chance to view plans and voice their thoughts on what is happening in their part of the city.
Officials in charge of the £176m Carlisle Northern Development Route will be on hand on the Saturday to talk to the public about the long-awaited new western bypass for the city.
Building work will start on October 19 with the road eventually set to run from the A595 junction near Newby West, around the western edge of Carlisle, across the River Eden and the West Coast Mainline railway before joining the M6 at junction 44.
A mini neighbourhood forum for Morton and another for Yewdale will also take place on the Saturday in the academy's Richmond Hall with important workshops from the local neighbourhood policing team and Two Castles Housing Association completing the day's events.
Cumbria County Councillor John Mallinson, chair of Carlisle Local Committee, said:
"This event is a fantastic chance for people across the west of Carlisle to talk about what is happening in their area and listen to how they can get involved.
"The Carlisle Northern Development Route will have a monumental effect on people in north Cumbria but especially on locals living near the route - and that includes people in the west of Carlisle.
"The neighbourhood policing teams and the housing association will be able to offer advice and listen to issues raised by people attending the event and I hope that everyone takes advantage and heads down to the academy on the day."
