Cumbria County Council is calling on residents to love their libraries this week as part of National Libraries Day.
Saturday 4 February is National Libraries Day for all 48 of Cumbria’s libraries and the finale to a week of events that will celebrate libraries, librarians and highlight the importance of reading.
There will be a range of events and activities taking place in the county’s libraries next week. For those that are open on Saturday 4 February there will be a special ‘Join a friend’ promotion for that day only.
If you’re already a member of the library, bring a friend along and get them to join and you will both get a free DVD loan (only applies only in branches which stock DVDs) and the opportunity to enter a prize draw to win the top ten fiction paperbacks.

Cllr Gary Strong, Cabinet member for libraries, said: “We are delighted to have such a full programme of events across the county during the run-up to National Libraries Day. A reading child is a successful child. A child who goes to the library is twice as likely to be a good reader and becomes a literate adult and lifelong reader.
"I would urge everyone to get down to their local library to take advantage of everything that is on offer, from books and DVDs to internet access and information on community events.”
