As part of the development of the Cumbria Landscape Character Guidance and Toolkit a series of 5 workshops were held during June and July 2009.   These sought input on our current Landscape character descriptions and Landscape Strategy.   A range of organisations and interests were involved.   The Presentation used at the workshop can be downloaded below.

During July and August the workshop materials were made available online so that any interested parties and people that couldn’t attend the workshops could also comment on what already exists.

Each workshop considered a particular part of the county, outside the national parks.   The workshops focused on the landscapes found around Carlisle, Kendal, Penrith, Ulverston and Workington.   These areas are shown on the county map below. 

We have reviewed the information gathered at workshops and online and have incorporated some of the comments in the draft Cumbria Landscape Character Guidance and Toolkit.

Testing Landscape Descriptions

Do you think the descriptions contain the main characteristics you associate with this area?

Do you think the subjective impression reflects how the area makes you feel?

Forces for change

What issues do you think are going to influence change in the character of these landscapes in the future?

Visions and Guidelines

Do you think the vision for the landscape type is still right?   Ie should we be enhancing, maintaining and conserving elements that would retain the key characteristics of the landscape?

Do you think the vision and guidelines reflect the issues that are going to influence change?
