Hearing - MWDF : Cumbria County Council

An Independent Planning Inspector, Mr Stephen J Pratt BA(Hons) MRTPI, has been appointed to examine the soundness of the Submitted Core Strategy to the Cumbria Minerals and Waste Development Framework (MWDF) together with the Generic Development Control Policies.

The Examination Process formally commenced with the Submission of the Core Strategy Document and the Generic Development Control Policies to the Secretary of State on 21 April 2008. The period for making representations closed on 30 May 2008.

The Submitted Core Strategy, the Generic Development Control Policies and other background documents submitted, including the Evidence Base, can be viewed and downloaded by using the links to the left. All responses made to the documents have been recorded and can be viewed on consultation software for the Core Strategy (external link) and Generic Development Control Policies (external link).

The Pre-Hearing Meeting was held at the offices of the Lake District National Park Authority, Murley Moss, Oxenholme Road, Kendal on Thursday 25 September 2008. The Inspector explained the procedure for examining the submitted documents and presented the final draft Programme for the Hearings and the Inspector's Schedule of Matters & Issues for Examination.

The Hearing sessions of the Examination commenced on Tuesday 11 November 2008 at the offices of the Lake District National Park Authority when the County Council made its Opening Statement. Examination sessions also took place on the 18th and 19th November at the Copeland Borough Council Offices, Copeland Centre, Whitehaven.

The Hearing sessions of the Examination have now been completed, and the County Council has presented its Closing Statement.

Following the close of the Hearing part of the Examination the County Council has produced revised versions of the Core Strategy, Generic Development Control Policies and Appendix H which incorporate recommended changes discussed at the Hearing and are shown in a Schedule of Changes - HD13.

The Inspector's report was submitted to the County Council at the end of February 2009. The recommendations in the report are binding on the County Council. Subsequently the Core Strategy and Generic Development Control Policies were adopted by the Council on 23 April 2009.
