Employment Land and Floorspace Review 2006

Skip main menu

Cumbria County Council monitors the take-up and availability of employment land in the County on an annual basis, utilising planning application records and new Valuation Office sources.   This data is published on the County Council’s website as the Employment Land and Floorspace Assessment.

It has long been considered that further analysis of this information should also be made available to help inform the progression of Cumbria’s spatial planning and economic development policies. It is hoped that the newly published Employment Land and Floorspace Review will provide the first in a series of reports to fulfil these requirements.

This report compares employment land availability and take-up at March 2006 with those of previous years, and provides analysis as to the existing trends within and between the six Boroughs/Districts in Cumbria County. It provides further analysis of the completion of employment floorspace within the county, and a profile of employment sites of strategic importance. This report excludes the Lake District National Park in both data and statistical analysis, since relevant information is not currently available. It is envisaged that information for the whole of Cumbria will be available in future reviews.

It is a particular objective for our future Employment Land and Floorspace Reviews to gain further relevant information, and improve our intelligence on the viability and attractiveness of Cumbria’s employment land portfolio.
