How to obtain a copy certificate of Birth, Death, Marriage or Civil Partnership
All birth, death and marriage certificates for this district are now held by Cumbria Certificate Services based in Carlisle.
Copy certificates may be ordered in the following ways:

Methods of Payment
Certificates currently cost £12.50 for the first certificate per order and £10 for subsequent certificates.
Online and telephone orders payment is made by credit or debit card.
In person payment can be by cash, cheque (with guarantee card), postal order or credit/debit card
Post - Cheque or Postal Order
Payment should be to Cumbria County Council
Please note if we are unable to locate the record and issue the certificate a full refund will be made. If you have paid in cash you will be required to collect it from the office where payment was originally made.
Timescales
All certificates will be issued within 5 working days of order and are posted first class.
Please Note:
This is not a guaranteed time frame. We do our best to provide certificates within the above quoted timescale but in exceptional circumstances there may be a delay due to increased demand or operational issues. We will process your application as soon as possible but cannot accept any liability for certificate issue made outside the above stated time scales. We do not accept any liability for items that go missing in the post.

We encourage you to provide a separate cheque for each certificate application. This avoids any delay should there be a problem locating an entry if several are requested. Otherwise we can only issue the certificates once all entries are found.
The district where the event took place. If the request is for a marriage certificate the location of the marriage will speed the search considerably.
The exact date of the event or for family history purposes a minimum of the year and quarter are essential
Full names of the parties involved where possible otherwise we can not ensure the correct entry will be issued.
