Don`t Crunch After Lunch!

Skip main menu

Cumbria Safety Cameras have launched a campaign to warn motorbikers about the hazards of losing concentration in the afternoon.

Most accidents involving motorcycles happen after lunch, peaking between 3pm and 5pm.  Riders often have an early start and some hard riding, stop for lunch, and then what is being called the 'siesta syndrome' seems to cause accidents.

Also, Cumbria as an agricultural county has its own peculiar hazards for bikers.  Diesel, mud and slurry from tractors, cars parked awkwardly at beauty spots, and the danger of collisions with wildlife such as pheasants and deer call for a high level of attention at all times.

This advice is especially handy for trail bikers - who may have hard sections to negotiate on tracks - as well as using tarmac roads in-between.

Cumbria Safety Cameras don't want to spoil anyone's fun!  But they do want to ensure that bikers can come back year after year to enjoy exploring the scenery.

They have produced a helpful leaflet with some tips and facts.
