Only two bikes allowed on most trains, but they travel free. Reservations must be made at least 24 hours in advance.

Cycles are carried free on all ScotRail services, but space is limited. ScotRail aim to provide between two and six spaces per train

Tandems and tricycles are not permitted. There are no special restrictions on folding bikes.

Both services carry up to four bikes. A free advance reservation is required for each single journey. When making a reservation, remember that it's no longer possible to book bicycles online, and it's advisable to make the bicycle booking when you buy your ticket. 


There are no special restrictions on folding bikes Please make enquiries in advance over whether tandems can be carried. 

BUSES:

Hadrians Wall bus service 122

Hadrians Wall Bus (Service AD122)

It runs from Bowness-on-Solway to Carlisle once a day then more frequently east to Brampton, Lanercost,Birdoswald, and Gilsland  

The service can carry up to two bikes per bus.

Please note, this service operates from Easter to the end of October.

Cross Lakes Shuttle

This integrated bus and boat service operates between Bowness Pier,Hawkshead, Grizedale and all stops in between.

Service 505 Windermere - Ambleside - Hawkshead - Consiton

The 505 Windermere to Coniston service can now carry bikes free of charge.

There is room for two cycles, but you are advised to book in advance to ensure there is space.

Cycles can only be boarded/unloaded at  Windermere Rail Station, Ambleside Kelsick Road, Hawkshead Village and Coniston.

To book, simply phone 01539 722143  (Monday to Friday 09.30-16.30), with the details of where you will join and leave the bus.
