Sustainable transport for Penrith

What's your view?

Penrith town centre

People in Penrith are being asked to come forward with ideas for making it easier to walk, cycle and use public transport to get around the town.

Cumbria Highways is asking residents about improvements they’d like to see that would help them get around without using a car.

Points for discussion could include:

  • What are your concerns as a pedestrian?
  • What would encourage you to cycle or walk to work, school or the shops?
  • How can bus stops and shelters be improved?

The scope for improvement will be limited by funding and not all the schemes people suggest will become a reality - the aim of the consultation is to get residents thinking about enhancements they might like to see that could be realistically tackled within Cumbria’s Highways budget.

This consultation builds on the work already done to develop community travel plans for the Penrith Carleton and Penrith West wards – as well as the efforts to look at cycling issues in the town with Sustrans and the Eden Cycling Campaign – the intention is to focus mainly on small and medium sized improvements.

The closing date for consultation is Friday 11th December. An opportunity will then be given for the public to express their priorities from the ideas and issues we have been able to develop scheme proposals around. A date for this public meeting is to be confirmed.
