3rd Cumbria Local Transport Plan
There is a need to produce the 3rd Local Transport Plan for Cumbria for submission to the government by April 2011.This is a statutory document that sets out how roads, footways, cycleways, rights of way and bus and train services in Cumbria will be improved and managed. The new Plan will contain a strategy for the next 10 years , the measures and policies to implement the strategy over the five years between 2011 and 2016 and a rolling programme of implementation plans showing where funding will be directed.
The Local Transport Plan will need to address the five national goals for transport :-
· support national economic competiveness and growth;
· tackle climate change;
· contribute to better safety security and health;
· promote greater equality of opportunity;
· improve quality of life and promote a healthy natural environment
The Plan will be prepared in line with the government guidance which can be seen at the DfT website. ![]()
Key to a high quality successful Local Transport Plan will be one which meets the needs of the residents, businesses and visitors to Cumbria. To help achieve this the Council will provide regular opportunities throughout the Local Transport Plan process to make comments on the Plan.The use of an external web based software will allow convenient access to the various stages to submit and comments and follow the different stages of the views.
