What is e-procurement?
e-procurement is the use of electronic methods at every stage of the purchasing process. The government expects all local authorities to be 100% capable of delivering services electronically. This therefore means that we use electronic systems for sourcing, ordering, and paying for goods, works and services from suppliers.

This approach improves the efficiency and effectiveness of our procurement. It has resulted in a number of savings for both local government and suppliers through faster processing, better use of information, reduced transaction costs and more effective communication.

Our e5 e-procurement system went live in November 2008 with a phased roll-out. The whole of Cumbria County Council has been using it since September 2009.
