Some post offices in Cumbria could start closing from as early as next month. This is as a result of the government’s drive to cut losses in the post office network and close 2,500 branches nationally.
Cumbria County Council strongly opposed any closures in the county. The reality is that the whole exercise has been conducted on a national level and is out of the hands of your local authority.
Now that the threatened closures are becoming a reality, the county council is working hard to keep what we’re left with.
We’re working alongside the Post Office Network on the long-term sustainability of Cumbria’s remaining network. We’re also working with communities to see how ‘add-on’ businesses to post offices, such as village shops, can be made viable if the post office disappears.
