Where do you go in Cumbria to daydream, let off steam, be entertained or find some peace and quiet? Is it walking in the Lakes, clubbing in Carlisle or strolling along a West Cumbrian beach? It might be a place that everyone knows, or somewhere that is special only to you.
Cumbria County Council has set up the Secret Life of Cumbria project to find out the answers to this and all sorts of other things, from what’s your favourite item of clothing to what’s the most important year of your life and why?
The aim of the project is to discover the kind of things people in Cumbria really care about. It kicked off at Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery in Carlisle by asking people what their favourite item of clothing is and why. Here are some of the responses so far:
“My pale blue Che Guevara t-shirt that I bought on Botchergate in 1969. The first t-shirt with a picture on in Carlisle.”
“I wore my beautiful blue sky butterfly dress to school on a non-uniform day, but was forlorn at the early age of seven as another little girl had the same special dress on as me!”
You don’t have to go to Tullie House to take part though as the best thing about the Secret Life of Cumbria is that you send in your answers by text message. All your answers are totally anonymous., you can log onto secretlife.org.uk to view your response and see other people’s too.
So come on, join in, let us know what your favourite place in Cumbria is and why?
The closing date for this question is September 2008 but look out for details on other questions on posters around the county soon.
By April 2009, Secret Life will be a diary of the people, places and culture in Cumbria throughout the year. We’ll keep you posted on the results…
Start a text message with the name of your favourite place, then tell us about it, no more than one text long, and send it to 07786 202994. It only costs the same as sending a normal text to your friend’s phone. You will not be signed up for anything. You can see your message at secretlife.org.uk but no one will know it came from you - it’s a secret.
