Longtown Moving Forward!

Longtown Moving Forward

Last issue’s cover star town has been getting its teeth into the first stage of consultation on the future of its public buildings and facilities. Several hundred people have responded to the consultation so far with a range of comments and views on everything from the fire station to the care home. It’s all about getting a clear picture of what people value and what they dislike about what’s on offer in the town. Of particular concern is what should happen once the local secondary school, Lochinvar, closes at the end of the summer term.

In July the county council will be taking a decision on whether or not to approve the development of fully worked through plans on proposals for change. The proposals will be rooted in the feedback the council gets from local people.

Longtown is the first place in the county to go through this process as part of the council’s countywide property review. You can find out more by visiting cumbria.gov.uk/longtown
